What Helene found so inspiring about Vincent

Vincent was born the son of a pastor on 30 March 1853 and enjoys a religious upbringing. When Vincent later develops great ambitions in art, he does not lose his reverence for God. The artist recognizes God mainly in nature and in the pure existence of humankind. Hard-working country dwellers are a particular source of fascination. The strength and perseverance required not to be crushed by hard labour inspires Vincent. Helene sympathizes wholeheartedly with the artist's beliefs. She herself is searching for spirituality in her life, seeking salvation in the same themes. A large number of Vincent van Gogh paintings and drawings reflect his love for people and nature. His oeuvre includes several portraits of ‘ordinary’ people. He also captured the most beautiful landscapes on canvas.
